Raspberry Stones

I realized I was a special sort of human. I could read minds. I was almost immortal. I could fly too, if I wanted. I met a vampire and we fell in love. We stayed in a small, charming apartment that was messy and cozy. Aliens from another planet abducted me and wished to use my powers to their advantage. They were trying to locate three magical stones that looked like raspberries. The stones had some gigantic power to save Earth and the universe when used all together, which is why they had been hidden throughout the universe in different spots. They put me in a spaceship and we found the first stone. It was way above Earth, just hovering. We were going to locate the others. They were good aliens, treated me right.

Black Falcon Eggs

I lived in an old house with lots of windows and rooms that sat on a hill. The paint was chipping and the decor was minimal. In a back room there was a Peregrine Falcon that I cared for. The back room had 2 walls of windows that could look out through another set of windows at the land beneath the hill. It was a female raptor that had laid eggs. Males were hard to come by and the falcons are endangered, which meant that these eggs were special. They were black eggs, a color that no bird species lays.  She had laid them into a velvet-lined box that functioned as her nest.  I entered the room to check on the eggs and the eggs fell out. One cracked and a yolk spilled out. The other one cracked but was solid inside because it was farther along.  I felt terrible that the eggs had broken and were lost. I set out to the park in the valley, which was the closest thing to a natural forest in the area.  I knew there were falcons in the area. We set out with my mini speakers and ipod filled with bird songs in hopes of attracting a male falcon to our care.  We spotted one across a stream and started playing the songs. It was interested. But, so were tourists and random passerbyes. I had to shoo people away and one woman took offense and demanded to see our permits for snatching an endangered bird. She called the police and we fled the scene without our bird.  I knew that we'd be back for the bird, but running as fast as we could away from the area was all I could think of. We came back to the house and the female falcon was perched on her branch. I looked forward to a new clutch of eggs, but wondered how we could lure that male bird without attracting lots of attention.

Lots o' Hawks

Trevor and I was at a party that was in the penthouse of a tall building in the middle of a very dense, industrial city.  From the veranda, all I could see was rooftop after rooftop, dark night, and the orange white lights of a city at night. It was quiet on the veranda. I could see other rooftop verandas and I liked looking at the sparse potted plants sitting there in stark contrast to the very geometric pattern of the buildings.  I looked up at the sky for a few moments and saw a very large and brightly marked Red-shouldered Hawk soaring across the sky.  It was beautiful and the only sign of life in the quite, rigid city.  It was bright and glowing, beautiful and magical.  Another hawk joined it and the two found a perch in a rooftop niche near a plant.  While they rested, a Red-tailed Hawk and Peregrine Falcon joined them.  They were having their own little party, I suppose.  Trevor was amazed at the sight when I pulled him over to watch at the spectacle.  He decided to walk up to the birds to get a better look.  One hawk was gnawing on a small mammal and I could sense that if Trevor got too close he would be perceived as invading the hawk's space.  As he approached, the hawk squawked and looked upset at him.  He didn't relent, which prompted the bird to nip at his ankle with its gigantic powerful beak.  Trevor quickly got the message and retreated into my arms.  Luckily he wasn't hurt.  We stood together, watching the hawks from a safe distance.  The last thing I saw before I woke up was the falcon perched on a ledge gazing in my direction and looking exquisite.

El Paso?

We were on the road in a caravan to Austin, TX. I was driving the old Nissan Maxima that has been long since retired. My sister was with me. Trevor was driving the truck with Brad alongside.  The drive was long and hot, with boring desert landscape that was endless. Occasional fruit stands made things interesting.  Driving was difficult (as it usually is in my dreams), with impairments such as blurry vision, brakes that aren't up to par, or a wandering mind that forgets where it's going. This drive was not as bad as others. It was "long" in theory, but in this experience it was very short. We arrived in El Paso. There was a lovely tree-lined city center and a shopping center that was sure to provide food and drink for us tired drivers. My sister and I cooled off, relaxed, and fed ourselves. Trevor and Brad were almost there. I went for a walk, which turned into the participation of a rollerskating race through the shopping center. I got wind that Trevor and Brad were at the food court eating tacos. So I ran. I ran very fast, as if I still had my skates on, to the food court where I met up with my boys. They were full-bellied and relaxed. And then it was obvious that the trip was planned without planning, for we all had things to do back home in a few days and the trip to El Paso had taken nearly that, and there were several more days to go if we were to get to Austin as planned. So we decided to sit there. No decisions. Just sit and be.

Mazes and Various Perspectives

Mossy interior of a white-washed warehouse. Lots of cracked windows and chipped paint. It's like a maze with many different turns to take, leading to many different rooms that all resemble various morphs of basements. Some have ratty tapestries, boxes, couches, etc. sitting in them, collecting mildew and cobwebs. I used to live in one of those rooms, apparently, and some of that old stuff used to be what I made home with. In a great room, there are very tall shelves with random artifacts on them. Taxidermy, clothing, small people, books, etc. On the top of a shelf, looking down at all the people scampering about, me and a girl of same age lying on our stomachs talking about the world.  Things were moving fast, falling apart, but innovating.  In another time, there was a library nearby filled with books that people never read. Then something changed and the books became interesting and people started reading them.  The pool in the middle of the library helped, I think. Everything was organized according to subject, and there was another maze walkway that you could follow into various aisles to look at books from a different perspective, usually altitudinal. Lots of people with shorts on. Lots of aimless wanderers and short run-ins with acquaintances, some who really look you in the eye.

*Sidenote: While my dreams have always been long, vivid, detailed, symbolic, and story-oriented, lately dreams have been: short, sparse, muddy, temporally disorganized, thematically abstract, and centered around the ordinary for the many months now. Also, I am not sure what this means, but lately I have been waking up in the middle of the night covered in sweat, unable to articulate or recall my intense dreaming experience. To be continued...

The Future Earth

In my dream I stood in a little girl's bedroom window lined with pink ruffles.  From the window I looked out onto a dark night and a wooded park.  A woman and the girl who occupied the room came in and spoke to me.  They handed me something that allowed me to fly.  I stepped out onto the window ledge and jumped.  I flapped my arms, which made me go faster and higher.  Once I got the hang of flying I took off, soaring and speeding through the night.  I flew into outerspace and through time.  I approached a planet Earth in the distant future.  I watched it change as I circled it.  It changed from a lush green and blue sphere to a clear orb containing nothing but machinery.  I watched as the biosphere collapsed and became nothing but metal technology.  A sinking feeling came to me: We destroyed Earth.  We used up everything good it had and replaced it with ugliness and metal.  I flew home as fast as I could.  The woman and the girl were waiting for me.  I told them what I saw.  They said I had seen 180 years into the future, but that no future was set in stone.  They said because I circled the orb and saw the future, that I had sealed the fate of the planet.  They said the only way to stop the destruction from happening was if I was to fly back there and make a reverse course of circle rotations around the earth.  I had to circle the same number of times I had circled when I first visited, except backwards.  They said only then would the future still be open for change.  So I did it.  I flew all the way back to Earth's future and I reversed my course.  I had to save Earth.  I had to make sure it had a chance of surviving.  A chance for us to stop our destruction.

Dark Shape Shifting

Well this was a strange dream.  Started out climbing through a dark damp path underground to get to a hotel pool area.  The area was dimly lit and the blue water seemed dark.  There were diving platforms and a bunch of people swimming.  Late at night I was still there and had three people with me--it appeared that I was the leader of some sort of cult club.  They all swam toward me and pricked my skin at various places and tasted my blood.  It was a sort of "honor" to me, their leader.  Strange.  Next I was staying at my sister's house (though not her real house) where my dead dog was still alive.  She looked thin and bony, but it was her.  Somehow she was still hanging on--almost like she had been waiting for me to come back to her before she let go.  I gave her love, snuggled her, petted her, and she seemed very happy.  When I hopped in the shower early in the morning I was transported to the next portion of the dream.  I was suddenly in a warehouse with dozens of aisles filled with rack upon rack of random junk.  Suddenly there were bullets being fired from a billion guns going in all directions.  I was in the middle of a battle between these half-robot half-man enemies and some other folks who were the good guys.  Somehow I crawled away unscathed and into an alleyway.  In the alley were giant dumptrucks and cars coated with some sort of light green tar.  Apparently I was in the wrong place once again because they started making rumbling and banging sounds.  The good guys had coated the things that the enemies had placed bombs inside.  The coating would absorb the blasts.  I was trying to get out of the alley or hide but was trapped.  The bombs were so big that the coating was starting to fail.  Suddenly I was transported to a covered market place that resembled an open-air Chinese flea market.  Lots of stacks of random things.  I was with a small group of people--we were the good guys.  And we could shape-shift.  It seemed that everyone around us was an enemy and couldn't be trusted.  There were spies everywhere, so we had to be careful.  As soon as we were found out we would take the form of objects around us.  That way we would be able to hide--though the forms we took were not always exactly like the forms we attempted to mimic.  And in these markets, if we took a form we took the risk that someone might pick us up and buy us, thus separating us from our group.  At one point I took the shape of a gold ring that someone was going to buy.  Luckily I escaped that one.  At one point we were under attack inside of a department store and we were ushered by the owner into a back room basement where he lived.  It was a tiny little closet with a sink, bunk bed, a tiny pantry, and a window that overlooked a vast valley.  Twice this scene repeated.  The second time it was just me and a male.  We looked out the window, feeling the pressure of the enemies about to find us out, and we jumped out the window taking the shape of birds.  We flew over the valley of vineyards, oak forests, and tiny towns.  There were dozens of enemies everywhere and we felt despair that there would be no safe place to land, ever.  We chose a hedge along the side of a farm.  A bit of cloth of the male's shirt tore and landed beside the bush.  We took the forms of leaves when we saw the farmer approach.  He seemed okay first, but when he found the shirt he knew there were shape-shifters around.  He took the rag and went to get a bad guy.  So we had to take flight once again.  We found a circus that had set up nearby and flew into a tent.  We peaked through a crack in the top of the tent and saw another covered open air market that sold toys and circus things.  We hopped over and quickly tried to regroup and figure out if there would ever be a way to defeat these bad guys.  Then I woke up, completely confused by this epic dream!
